Robert Kaniecki, M.D., is an assistant professor of neurology and director of the Headache Center at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Kaniecki is also the founder of the Allegheny General Headache Center, which is revered as the focal point for numerous single and multi-center clinical research protocols.

Author and co-author of various articles, book chapters and abstracts, Dr. Kaniecki’s research interests include patient satisfaction with headache treatment protocols, the long-term effects of Migraine prophylaxis, and the impact of educational programs on the performance of clinicians.

Dr. Kaniecki is a member of a number of professional and scientific societies, including the American Headache Society, the National Headache Foundation, the International Headache Society and the Primary Care Network. In 1999 he received the National Headache Foundation’s Lectureship Award, and he remains active in the education of primary care physicians and specialists in the care of patients with headache.

Dr. Kaniecki graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame where he was named a Notre Dame Scholar and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Societies. He attended the Washington University School of Medicine, graduated second in his class, and received Alpha Omega Alpha and several scholastic awards. Following his graduation, he completed his medical and neurology training at Barnes Hospital and Washington University, where he served as chief resident his final year. In 1992 he was named the Barnes Hospital Resident Teacher of the Year.
