Doc says Premarin causing Migraines and wants to discontinue...

Question: Doc says Premarin causing Migraines and wants to discontinue...

Answer:

Full Question:

I currently take half Inderal LA as a preventative. I find it doesn’t help. My doctor has told me I have to come off my HRT i.e. Premarin as this is probably the cause of my migraines. She has prescribed me fluoxetine instead. I am really not sure what to do. Could you help? I have been taking Premarin for 8 years now. Thank you, D. Russell.

Answer:

Dear D. Russell;

Women's hormone preparations cut both ways: they can help or make headache patterns worse. More likely the beta blocker has simply worn out (or the dose is wrong), fluoxetine doesn't have much to offer for migraines.

Good luck,
John Claude Krusz

Dear D.;

Am I understanding you correctly that you're taking HALF an Inderal LA capsule? Is this something your doctor told you to do? Inderal LA capsules are a time-release formulation, and aren't meant to be taken apart, but meant to be swallowed whole. Perhaps you could discuss this with your doctor before making any other changes.
