Question: Headaches at night, pressure...
Answer:
Full Question:
Please help me. I have been getting headaches
at night for the past year. I have had migraines since the age of ten but these
are different. It is a feeling of pressure, it feels like my head is going to
explode. It hurts to lay on the soft pillow and it feels like I am laying on a
hard surface. I get them after I go to sleep every night, some nights are worse
than others. At the same time I have these headaches, I have pangs in my upper
stomach just below the breast bone. There are times that I feel like my mind is
going crazy, sometimes I have strange dreams and hear weird voices. There is a
throbbing in my head and I get dizzy. I have to sit up in my bed for a few
minutes before I get up. The longer I stay in bed the more intense it becomes.
Once I get up it takes 15 to 30 minutes for it to go away. If I stay in bed it
can go into a full migraine. I have talked to the Dr's at Kaiser and they just
keep giving me prescriptions that only upset my stomach. I really really want to
find out what is causing these so they can be treated. It is affecting my
quality of life and my job as I have a hard time getting to work on time. Has
anyone else experienced these symptoms? What can I do or take to cure them?
Please help, I am nearly at the end of my rope. Regards, Mary Ellen.
Answer:
Dear Mary Ellen;
Headaches or Migraines at night or upon waking can indicate a sleep problem. Unfortunately, sleep issues are often not explored. This is an area to discuss with your doctor. If that yields no help, you need to seek treatment with a true headache and Migraine specialist; neurologists aren't necessarily specialists in any one particular field. If you want to talk to others who may have experienced similar symptoms, try our forum. There are links below to our directory of recommended specialists and our forum.
Good luck,
