Question: Can the weather trigger sinus headaches?

Answer:

Full Question:

Can the weather trigger sinus headache? The humidity is high 90-100% and the temperature is in the high 80's. When I am in air, I am fine. When I go outside, a sensation comes over me starts top of my head and goes directly to the eyes and a dull headache appears sometimes pain and will not go away until I sleep. I have taken Advil's, they do not work as well as if I take early in the morning when I get up. Thanks! Adrienne.

Answer:

Dear Adrienne;

True sinus headaches are rare unless there is infection present. Recent studies have show that most of what people think are sinus headaches are actually Migraine attacks. Changes in the weather are a very common Migraine trigger. Please see:

    Sinuses Giving You a Headache? It's Probably a Migraine
    If you've tried various over-the-counter sinus medications to relieve your sinus headaches to no avail, there may be a good reason: chances are you don't have a sinus headache at all. Nearly 9 in 10 people with sinus headache symptoms likely are suffering from Migraines.

Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
