Question: Will hormonal Migraines cease after menopause?

Answer:

Full Question:

I have been suffering from migraines for approximately 20 years. In tracking my migraines, it appears that they are associated with my menstrual cycle. I often get a migraine two weeks before my period, as well as, within two days of my period. My question: Is it likely that my migraines will cease once I go through menopause? Barbara.

Answer:

Dear Barbara;

If I could answer that question accurately, I'd be psychic, a wealthy woman, or both. The truth is that there's no way to accurately predict if or how your Migraine patterns will change after menopause. Some women find their Migraines lessen or cease; some see an increase for awhile; still others see no change at all. Anecdotally, it does seem that women whose primary Migraine trigger has been hormonal do tend to see at least a reduction in Migraines after menopause.

Good luck,
Teri Robert
