Question: Could Protonix be a Migraine trigger?

Answer:

Full Question:

Do you know if taking Protonix could trigger migraine headaches? Also I noticed if I take Relpax right away and then another one an hour later my headache goes away and I’m ok then. I also notice though the next day I feel like I’m almost in a pre migraine stage still. Before ever taking Relpax I would throw up and then have killer headaches. This Relpax has gotten me through the days at work where I normally would have to go home. I still have a gut feeling the Protonix is part of my problem. What do you think? Thanks, Randy.

Answer:

Dear Randy;

I think that a lot of people link a medication to a symptom they experience as a cause and effect. While it certainly is possible that Protonix could cause headaches, I personally have never heard of this as a migraine trigger. Your headaches do sound like they might be migraines. The pre-migraine way you feel the next day might just be another migraine returning. I wonder if you could tell your story to a gastroenterologist, a specialist for the abdominal area. I'm glad the migraine medication works for you.

Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
