Question: Doctors want to take me off Fiorinal with Codeine?

Answer:

Full Question:

I have been suffering from Migraines for 20 years. I have tried many medications that didn't work. A doctor put me on Fiorinal with Codeine and for the first time this med worked. I have been taking this for 10 yrs. My regular doctor is over in Iraq and every doctor I see wants to take me off this. My doctor told me not to worry about taking it because when your in such pain the medicine goes right to the pain. What can I do? Marcia.

Answer:

Dear Brandy;

Well, we tend to see the medication you are on as a potential problem for setting up analgesic-rebound headaches. I don't have any idea how often you actually take the Fiorinal/codeine. I imagine its possible to get continued relief if the medication is taken very sparingly or intermittently; I imagine most headache specialists would try to do the job with something else.

Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
