Question: Muscle soreness from Imitrex? Pamelor and Imitrex together?

Answer:

Full Question:

I am 31 and I have had migraines since I was 3. I have been on just about everything. I find relief in aborting migraines by using Imitrex. However, I often experience muscle soreness after using Imitrex. Recently my neurologist put me on a prophylactic, Pamelor. I am also on Zoloft for anxiety and irritability. My question has two parts: Do you know why my muscles feel sore (almost as if they are bruised) after taking any amount of Imitrex? and Secondly, is it dangerous to be taking Pamelor (25 mg.), Zoloft (75mg.), and Imitrex together? Thank you, K-Lea.

Answer:

Dear K-Lea:

It does occur sometime that muscle soreness is experience after Imitrex. This does not mean anything bad is happening. Sounds like it is working to help your migraines. There is no known reason for this side effect. I don't believe it is dangerous to be taking the meds you are on, although the package insert does mention use of concomitant SSRIs and Imitrex. Talk to your neurologist about it.

Good luck,
