Question: Fiorinal with Codeine vs. Imitrex... rebound...

Answer:

Dear Pam;

You bring up many good points. Your Migraine frequency picking up may be due to Fiorinal "catching" up with you after a number of years of relatively safe use. It can do that. Imitrex usually doesn't "cause" rebound but it has been written about as a POTENTIAL agent to allow rebound headaches. If you have more than two Migraines per week, you should probably seek the advice of a specialist who can put you on some form of prophylaxis medication to suppress your Migraine pattern entirely. Good luck with the search. A link to our directory of recommended specialists is below.

Good luck,

Dear Pam,

You also might find that another triptan would work better for you than Imitrex. There are now seven of them available. Here's some information for you:

    Triptans: Overview and Profiles
    In 1992, the FDA approved the first of a class of medications that many Migraineurs call "miracle drugs." That drug was sumatriptan (Imitrex®, Imigran®), the first triptan. Here are both general information on triptans and detailed profiles of each.

Best wishes for your improvement,
Teri Robert
