Question: Daily Migraines? Use of ibuprofen?

Answer:

Full Question:

I am currently having migraines daily. This has been going on for 4 months. I have tried over the counter as well as prescription medications without success. What is the current thoughts on the use of ibuprofen for the treatment of migraines? Thank You, Cynthia.

Answer:

Dear Cynthia;

The occasional use of ibuprofen for mild to moderate Migraine pain seems to work well for some Migraineurs. However, frequent use of it can present a couple of problems. First, it can be very hard on the stomach. Second, it can lead to medication overuse/rebound headaches. See:

    Medication Overuse Headache: What's a person to do?
    Unfortunately, it seems that any medication we take for headache or Migraine relief has the potential to cause medication overuse headache if used more than two or three days a week. We need to learn as much about it as possible. Let’s take a look at what causes it, how to avoid it, and other important issues.

Cynthia, it's time to talk to your doctor. Frequent Migraines need preventive therapy.

Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
