Ask the Clinician

Question: Menstrual migraines... menopause... will migraines decrease?

Answer:

Dear Clemmie,

It would be wonderful if we could give you a simple answer to your question, but there simply isn't one. Women and their hormones remain as mysterious after menopause as before menopause. Some women's Migraines greatly decrease after menopause. Some women experience an increase. Some notice no difference at all. Anecdotally, there does seem to be some correlation between women who experience menstrual Migraines and women who experience fewer Migraines after menopause, but there are no studies to substantiate this.

hang in there,
