Question: Increasing Migraines, hormones, Botox, daily Excedrin and Zomig...
Answer:
Dear Ms. Butler,
It sound like time to consult a Migraine specialist. There are still many possibilities open to you other than Botox. With at least 100 medications being used for Migraine prevention, plus all the possible combinations, effective preventive regimens can be found for at least 98% of Migraineurs.
Did your neurologist not advise you against daily use of Excedrin or other products containing acetaminophen and/or other analgesics. The use of those medications more than a couple of days a week leads to analgesic rebound headaches more often that not. Here's some information:
Arghhhhh! Rebound Headaches!
You have a headache. Taking medications is one of the logical things to do.
There is something to consider before you take that medication though -- the
dreaded rebound headaches. They're caused by taking medications too often.
Sometimes just taking a drug for two or three consecutive days can cause
rebound.
Although there isn't consensus among the experts yet, many also believe that the older triptans, including Zomig, may cause rebound headaches.
Thus, one of the best things you can do for yourself is stop all medications with analgesics to get them cleared from your system. While you're in rebound, preventives won't work properly either.
As for hormone fluctuations increasing the frequency of your Migraines, it's possible, but only trying some kind or hormone therapy will tell you with any certainty.
There have been some reports of success with acupuncture. It's really something you'd have to try for yourself as nothing works for everyone.
Good luck,
Teri Robert
