Question: 14 y/o "complicated Migraines"... Getting no relief?
Answer:
Full Question:
My 14 year old daughter suffers from Migraines,
however when she gets a really bad migraine she will pass out. I have not heard
of this happening with any other people is this something that does occur with
migraines. She has been to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and had every test
imaginable but all they came up with was a diagnosis of "complicated migraines".
Also, no one seems to be able to get her any type of pain relief, is there a
medication out there that could help at least take the edge off when she gets a
really bad migraine? She has taken Maxalt, and Imitrex, neither of which helped
at all. Thanks for any information you can give. JoAnn
Answer:
Dear JoAnn;
Passing out with Migraine isn't common, but it can happen. "Complicated Migraines" is not a diagnosis as outlined by the International Headache Society, so it's difficult to draw much information from that. "Complicated Migraine" is more a descriptive term than a diagnosis.
Children's Hospital is a wonderful institution, but even the best can't be the right place for treating every patient. There are some excellent Migraine specialists right there in Pittsburgh, including Dr. Robert Keniecki. It's time to consult one of them for your daughter. A specialist will be able to help her find medications to help her.
Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
