Question: Daily Migraines, "a little swelling of the brain," doc says "learn to manage?"
Answer:
Full Question:
I am 28 years old and I have been suffering
with migraines for at least 6 years. Each time they get worse and worse. Most of
the time I have an aura before I get the migraine followed by sever throbbing
pain, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and even sometimes the
whole side of my body goes numb and tingles. I have kept a diary of my migraines
for a long time and can't pin point why I am having them. It's been 2 weeks and
I have had one everyday! I take the pain medication the nausea medication and
the Topamax and the Dr just tells me that I need to learn how to control my
migraines. Easy for him to say when he's probably never had one. I have had
several CT scans, but they all come back as fine all but a little swelling of
the brain. Is there any other testing that I can have to make sure there is
nothing else wrong? MRI...etc. anything! I am tired of waking up with one and
trying to explain to my 2 children that again mom doesn't feel good!
Answer:
Hello;
It's time for a new doctor, one who will help you come up with a preventive regimen to control your Migraines. That's not something you just do. It's unclear what might be meant by "a little swelling of the brain," but an MRI might clear that up. a lumbar puncture is sometimes done to rule out pseudotumor cerebri, aka idiopathic intracranial hypertension, which can trigger Migraines. Your best bet is to make an appointment with a good Migraine specialist. If you need it, there's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
