Question: Diagnosed with Migraine, not sure. If tension, could hypnosis help?
Answer:
Full Question:
I would like to ask a question of the migraine
specialists. How do I do it? I did not see any link for inquiries. Or perhaps
you can help me. Basically, I was diagnosed with migraines over 4 years ago even
though I dont get the aura, light, sound or nausea sensitivity. My headaches
are frequent (several times a month, sometimes several days in a row for weeks).
They are more often on sided and quite painful (I give then a 7-8 on a 10
scale). I have tried everything to no effect: acupuncture, chiropractor;
neurofeedback; yoga; exercise, food allergist; all the suggested supplements
(magnesium, riboflavin. Pedadolex, Migralieve, Botox, magnesium injections,
CQ-10 Vitamin b-2), prophylactic drugs (Neurontin, Lexapro, Effexor, singular;
Topamax) all to naught. Imitrex often works for me, but not all the time (about
75-80% success rate if caught early). While it might not be a real migraine; my
neurologist (one of the most renowned headache docs in NYC) calls it one
nonetheless. All that said, if it is really a tension related headache, (or even
if not) could hypnosis work? If so, where in the NYC area could you suggest I
go? Please advise. Thank you so much. Regards, Karen.
Answer:
Dear Karen;
If 80% of your headaches are helped by Imitrex, that speaks for them being migraines or migrainous or whatever is similar. You seem to wonder of they are. The results speak for themselves. The other 20% are what forms a concern as well. You call them tension related headaches, but on what basis?? Hypnosis is one of many approaches to help a lot of clinical symptoms, like headaches. I'm sure your headache specialist would know who they have worked with before or whose work they like in the area. Good luck with your search for betterment.
