Question: Feverfew and NSAIDs together causing bleeding?
Answer: [ Full Question:
I am considering taking magnesium, riboflavin and feverfew daily as a preventative for migraines. I take Motrin and other NSAIDs for my headaches when they occur but have read that people taking feverfew should not take NSAIDs at the same time as it may cause internal bleeding. Is this correct? Thank you in advance. Donald.
Answer:
Dear Donald;
The combination you mention can be tried. I'd be more worried that the ibuprofen you take might lead to analgesic rebound headaches, rather than bleeding, although this is certainly possible as well. See:
Medication Overuse Headache: What's a person to do?
Unfortunately, it seems that any medication we take for headache or Migraine relief has the potential to cause medication overuse headache if used more than two or three days a week. We need to learn as much about it as possible. Lets take a look at what causes it, how to avoid it, and other important issues.
Good luck,
