Question: Preventive meds and scuba diving?

Answer: Full Question:

I was recently prescribed propranolol for recurring headaches (MRI showed nothing specific). However, I am a scuba diver and several websites seem to suggest that beta blockers are contraindications for diving. Do you know what migraine prescription I can take that will not affect my diving skills? AZ

Answer:

Dear A;

I know many agents that avoid some of the pitfalls or side effects of beta blockers. If you have more than one disabling headache (Migraine) per week, then prophylaxis is appropriate, You might want to consult with a headache expert in your area for more specific advice.

Good luck,
