Question: Link between Fibromyalgia and Migraines?
Answer:
Full Question:
Hi, I'm just wanting to see what
you think the link is between Fibromyalgia and migraines. I was diagnosed 14 years ago.
I've never had a MRI. But I've had a lot of pain and tried a lot of drugs that
don't help. Of course I know migraines is a part of Fibromyalgia I've been told. I can help in
one way , I do believe hereditary plays a big role in the process. My
grandmother had seizures, my mother has Fibromyalgia , my sister has
Fibromyalgia , I have a lot of
cousins and nieces and nephews that have seizures, bipolar, ADD, epilepsy. I
do Believe there is a big connection, just wanted to know what you thought, and
can you give me any advice? Basically the quality of life is not very good.
Answer:
Dear Sufferer;
A lot of people with Fibromyalgia symptoms also have headaches, including Migraines so that is not a stretch. (It should be noted, however, that Migraines are not a part of Fibromyalgia. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease, not a part of Fibromyalgia. As with some other diseases, it's not uncommon for people to have both Migraine disease and Fibromyalgia.) Beyond that, it is unclear to me what FMS really is although I think some people do not process painful signals out, as is the case (in my opinion) with people who suffer from headaches. I would seek the services of your local headache expert, if at all possible. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
