Question: Fuzzy, disconnected feeling, nystagmus... Migraines without headache?
Answer:
Full Question:
I am a 34 year old male that does not have a
history of migraines, but they do run in the females of my family (great
grand-mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin). I have read about migraines without
headaches and wanted to see if my symptoms were something you had seen in
someone else. I started having episodes in Feb where I get this
fuzzy/disconnected feeling in my head for roughly 15 seconds and is followed by
2-4 minutes of horizontal nystagmus. The longest episode I have had lasted 6
minutes. After my episode I tend to be very tired and just want to lay down and
rest. I have had a total of 26 episodes to date. I have gone through extensive
testing by two neurologists and an ENT. They have ruled out MS, seizures, tumors
etc. Have you seen/heard of anyone having nystagmus with non-headache migraines?
Thank you, Brent.
Answer:
Dear Brent;
I believe your family history speaks for itself. Your episodes of nystagmus might be related to Migraines, as in acephalgic Migraines. I'm glad you are timing these events closely. I'd seek the services/advice of a local headache expert to run your story by him/her. If you need it, there's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
