Question: Dysautonomia... Nubain/Phenergan injections daily... mitral valve prolapse...
Answer:
Full Question:
I have been reading how migraines is one of the symptoms of dysautonomia. For the last 6+ years I have been fighting "status" migraine or whatever the current neuro wants to title them. The only relief I get is from Nubain/Phenergan injections several times a day or Demerol/Phenergan injection in the ER. I am experiencing hypothyroidism, mitral valve prolapse, rapid heart rate (but normal bp), lightheadedness or dizziness after sitting for a while, syncope when the migraines get too severe, daily low-grade fever (FUO) for almost a year, endless rounds of antibiotics (no immune system), insomnia, and severe unexplained weight loss (40+ lbs in 6 months). I have been in and out of hospitals too many times to count, but always the same result. No one know what is causing the migraines, but assumes it is just rebound. Even after several "headache specialists" I am told they know nothing else to try and I need to do detox. The symptoms of dysautonomia as associated with mitral valve prolapse syndrome, but I cannot get a physician in my city to look into this for me and I do not know where else to go. I have been cleared for cardio, but even cardio will not consider this condition. What can I do?.
Answer:
Dear Madam/Sir;
You present a bewildering array of symptoms; migraines are associated with over
200 medical and surgical conditions and all of the items you mentioned DO have
an association with migraines. But that is not the same thing as saying that any
one (or more) of them is the CAUSE. Certainly, rebound would be in any headache
physician's thinking due to multiple doses of opiates per day. I do not know
what you mean by "cleared for cardio". That specialists in the headache field
haven't been helpful to your symptoms, up to now, does not speak for the rest of
the field. Good luck to you in your search for answers and better treatment.
Good luck,
John
