Question: Numbness, tingling, impaired vision... common in 'Complicated Migraine?'
Answer:
Full Question:
I was diagnosed in Dec 2005 with having
complicated migraines. I am still having symptoms, numbness and tingling in
entire left side of my body (face/neck/back/legs etc, impaired vision) even with
treatment. Is this a common complaint for those with this diagnosis? I am
concerned due to family history of stroke, etc. Thank you, Donna.
Answer:
Dear Donna;
"Complicated Migraine" is not a diagnosis outlined by the International Headache Society's International Classification of Headache Disorders. Thus, there is no standardization of what is implied by the term "complicated Migraine." One doctor may use it to describe one type of Migraine while another doctor uses it differently. That makes it impossible for us to comment as to whether your symptoms are common for your diagnosis. Have you discussed your family history of stroke with your doctor? It's important that he be aware of it.
You don't say what your treatment is, but please know that there are many treatment options to explore. The best advice we can offer is to consult a Migraine specialist. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
