Full Question:
Hi, I'm 22-years-old and I've suffered from migraine attacks since I was about 14 yrs old. My migraine attacks include vomiting and sensibility to noise or light, I usually have to be taken in to the ER since nothing since to make the pain go away! But the attacks where I have to be taken to the ER only happen 1 or 2 in the year! I haven't had any treatment since I was 14, I don't take anything except for Advil and when I start having a headache I put some of those ice pads that come with menthol, and sometimes they seem to work! The thing about this headaches that do not have vomit and are not so strong is that they are mostly ocular I only have lots of pain on my left eye and on the left temple, sure my forehead hurts but the most discomforting area is the eye and the temple, what kind of test should I need, I guess I really have to go to neurologist, I don't know maybe you can give me some information on what might this be or what may cause or what tests should I get done! Thank you, Maggie.
Answer:
Dear Maggie;
It's really quite impossible for us to tell you with any certainty what the second type of headaches you describe are. That's diagnosing, and diagnosing needs to be done by a doctor who can review your history and symptoms and conduct an examination. It's possible that these episodes are less severe Migraines with slightly different symptoms, but only your doctor can tell you. You may not even need any tests, just a thorough exam. So, do yourself a favor, and call your doctor for an appointment. Migraine is a neurological disease. Everyone who has Migraines should be under a doctor's care anyway.
Good luck,
