Answer:
Full Question:
How long does a hemiplegic migraine last? Are there any tests to be done in helping to diagnose hemiplegic or atypical migraines?.
Answer:
Hello;
You ask a good, but difficult to answer question. Although the headache phase of a hemiplegic Migraine shouldn't last longer than 4 to 72 hours, the aura can be quite prolonged, lasting for several days.
Tests are performed in diagnosing any form of Migraine disease in order to rule out other medical conditions. There is no test that confirms Migraine, but since Migraine symptoms could also be symptoms of stroke, aneurysm, and other conditions, doctors will sometimes order tests to rule out such conditions. What Is Hemiplegic Migraine?
To understand Hemiplegic Migraine, we have to understand that Migraine attacks are episodic manifestations of a genetic neurological disease. Migraine can present in a variety of ways. Hemiplegic Migraine is a rare form of Migraine disease, made more confusing by there being two variations: Familial Hemiplegic Migraine (FHM) and Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine (SHM).
