Answer:
Full Question:
My sister has suffer for headaches for over 18
years. Every day she has a headache. They are getting worse. She has been to
many doctors, chiropractors. she has had MRIs, CT scans and all that. She has
tried many different prescription drugs and nothing has helped her. She
continues to take about 10 BC powders every day. They do not help to take her
pain away. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or any direction on what to
do next. maybe there is something out there that we have not heard of or done.
Her pain starts in the back of her neck and shoulder areas and goes to her head.
She says that it feels like her head is going to explode sometimes. She is
always tired. Thanks for any help/suggestions that you might have.
Answer:
Hello;
Without reviewing your sister's medical history and performing a physical examination, it's difficult to make many suggestions for treatment. Your email, however, reveals a potentially serious problem with the BC Powders. The directions for this product clearly say not to exceed four powders in 24 hours. The main ingredient in BC Powders is aspirin. Such an overdose can lead to bleeding problems and gastrointestinal problems. There's an additional issue with possible medication overuse headaches, aka reboung headaches. It's possible that the BC Powders are perpetuating your sister's headaches. Please see:
Medication Overuse Headache: What's a person to do?
Unfortunately, it seems that any medication we take for headache or Migraine
relief has the potential to cause medication overuse headache if used more
than two or three days a week. We need to learn as much about it as
possible. Lets take a look at what causes it, how to avoid it, and other
important issues.
The best thing your sister can do is stop taking the BC Powders and consult a headache specialist. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
