Question: If I had these conditions before the accident would they have shown on a CT?

Answer:

Full Question:

I had a CT scan of my brain 3 months ago that was normal, and recently I was in a auto accident. The recent MRI says that the findings could be related to early chronic ischemic disease, or gliosis from the trauma. If I had these conditions before the accident would they have shown on a CT scan?

Answer:

Hello;

Not necessarily. MRI scans can often image items that are missed on a CT scan, including so-called shearing injuries after trauma. Sometimes, MRI scans pick up all kinds of images that wind up confusing the issue, as they may not be relevant to a person's clinical diagnosis. In a sense, MRI sometimes yields too much information, more confusing than helpful.

Good luck,
