Question: Unusual Migraine with tingling, trouble focusing, hand and neck stiffness?
Answer:
Full Question:
Hi there I am a 34 year old woman mother of a
10 year old. I have suffered from migraines since I was 14. Yesterday was one of
the worst days. I woke up with a migraine and took 2 Tylenol 1's (with codeine &
caffeine) This was about 1:15pm, it was a hot day about 76 and I was driving to
work with no air. After about 25 minutes I felt my hands going tingly and I was
having trouble focusing on the road. Then my hands went stiff and so did my
neck, I was having troubles focusing and I was panicking trying to catch my
breath. This went on for 5 minutes when I got to work they gave me oxygen and I
could feel my hands and feet again...please help me figure out why this
happened. Paula
Answer:
Dear Paula;
Sounds like you had a dramatic presentation of a classic migraine (migraine with aura), although you do not mention a headache. It is possible to have everything BUT the headache (called acephalgic migraines) during an episode. In any case, seeking out a local headache/migraine specialist might be helpful to find medication more specific than the ones you take. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
