Question: Unusual headache when laughing?
Answer:
Full Question:
I have an unusual headache. I have noticed for
the last several years, that when I laugh at something, the back of my head,
usually between my ears all the way across, hurts bad. I have to force myself to
stop laughing because the pain gets really bad.....once I stop the pain slowly
subsides. Its not that I'm laughing real hard either, just normal but while
everyone else is still laughing at a funny story I have to quit because of the
pain. it feels like a lot of pressure builds up and if I don't stop it will
explode. That is so weird. I also have lingering head aches for days that are
not too painful just lingering all week long and no medicine takes it away.
Thank you, Ramona
Answer:
Dear Ramona;
Your symptoms sounds like they could be related to altered fluid pressure in the system that makes and takes away cerebrospinal fluid. This often can be altered (usually elevated) in the setting of headaches and Migraines. I suggest you see a headache specialist, as there are medications that can lower spinal fluid pressure nicely. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
Good luck,
