Question: Ideas for three-month Migraine? Neuro about to give up.
Answer:
Full Question:
Ive had a migraine with light and sound
sensitivities for almost three months now and cannot work because of it. My
neurologist seems about ready to give up on ideas to help me. MRIs, etc are all
OK. The first neurologist had me in the hospital for three days of DHE
treatment, then put me on decreasing Depakote treatment. Now, another
neurologist has me on increasing Depakote treatment supplemented with Relpax and
Percocet when the pain gets real bad. Nothing seems to be working. Do you have
any ideas?
Answer:
Hello;
It's time for you to see a true Migraine specialist. With no disrespect, neurologists aren't automatically Migraine specialists. Think about all the various illnesses, diseases, and injuries they treat, and you'll see that it would be exceedingly difficult for a general practice neurologist to be a true specialist in any of them. There's a link to our directory of recommended specialists below.
Here's some information about treating such refractory Migraines:
IV Therapy in the Headache Clinic for Refractory Migraine
Intractable and refractory Migraines need aggressive treatment. With the
exception of headache and Migraine specialists, doctors simply have too many
conditions to treat to be expected to have the expertise to treat such
cases. Dr. John Claude Krusz and his colleagues have been using aggressive
outpatient IV treatment for refractory Migraines in Dr. Krusz's Dallas
clinic.
Good luck,
Teri Robert and John Claude Krusz
