Question: Transitional Global Amnesia and gastroenteritis or Migraine?
Answer:
Full Question:
I think I recently had my first experience with a migraine. I was seen in the ER and admitted and eventually diagnosed with Transitional Global Amnesia and gastroenteritis. From what I have read on your website, I think it might have been a migraine. Unfortunately I don't remember about 6 hours of the episode. My husband has documented the events and I have that information if it would be helpful. I had violent vomiting and some diarrhea. No sensitivity to light or sound that I can remember. I did have pain in the back of my head behind my right ear and went away after the 'attack'. Is there a connection between TGA and migraines and what suggestions do you have for me?? Thanks, Rochelle.
Answer:
Dear Rochelle;
I think you meant Transient Global Amnesia. This is not often associated with Migraine and is rather rare in itself. With the other diagnosis of gastroenteritis, all bets are off. You could have gotten severely dehydrated with that problem, dropped your blood pressure. Oh, I can go on and on, and that is not the point of this column. Again, headaches, including Migraines, are associated with over 300 medical and surgical conditions. Hopefully it will never recur again!
Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
