  • 7) I have experienced moderate to severe headaches all my life (I am nearly 45). About 2 years ago I was "officially" diagnosed with migraines. There seemed to be a clear link to my menstrual cycle as a trigger. Imitrex does help make the episodes manageable. But it does give me some occasional eye edema, and some minor heart palpitations (both of which disappear within a few hours) Here's my question--I am still not convinced mine are really migraines. I fit the profile in terms of localized throbbing pain, one side of the head, lasting for as long as 4 days without intervention. But I don't have nausea, or light/sound sensitivity. Even the commercial for Imitrex suggests that ONE of those must be present in a true migraine. Since I have reached a level where the headaches are manageable and the disruption to my quality of life is minimized, my doctor wants to stay the course. However it troubles me to think I might be chasing the wrong problem, or taking medications I don't need (nothing is ever 100% without risk) Any ideas?

  • 8) I am a 45-year-old female who has suffered with migraines since high school. They use to last for 2 weeks out of the month until I eliminated trigger foods and activities. Now I only get them with my period. Maxalt has been a God send but the challenge is when taken I am out of commission for hours. The migraines reoccur for 4 or 5 days but require Maxalt only 2 or 3 days and on the days I battle through without medicine I am not the best person to be around. I do not always get the pounding headache, but the dizziness, nausea, the constant yawning, the sensitivity to lights, noise, odors, heat, and going to the bathroom interfere with work. Every morning I wake up feeling like a truck backed over me a couple times. What can I do to prevent them? Increased magnesium and SLOW-MAG do not seem to help. I also take prednisone and other medicines daily to control Sarcoidosis of the lungs. Could the prednisone contribute to the migraines? Thank you.

  • 10) My 16-year-old daughter has been having migraines since age 12. At first they were infrequent but the last 2 yrs. they are becoming as often as 1 or 2 times a week. She has seen a pediatric neurologist and a neurologist. She has had CAT scan, MRI and EEG all normal. What can we do? She misses lots of school. We've tried Topamax, Neurontin, Trazadone, Imitrex and Zomig. They give some relief but doesn't seem to be enough. Could CoQ10 help? I'm ready to try just about anything. Thanks, Mary G.

  • 11) I am a 49 year old female who has had migraines since age 11. While I must say there have been times in my life that they have been left severe, I have always had them. In the beginning they would primarily come on during the day. We were able to find triggers and then I started waking up with severe migraines. I have been on many many different types of medicines over the years and spend 10 days at a headache hospital learning about headaches. Nothing seems to work. I have recently lost my second job in a year to migraines. I have always been in some sort of administrative management positions. My last job I went down to being a secretary in hopes of relieving some stress, which I know plays an important part in migraines. I also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and severe panic attacks along with thyroid problems. I am strongly considering applying for Social Security Disability benefits. Do you know if they recognize migraines as a disability? Also do you have any advice where I might be able to turn for help. I've run the full run and still have these severe headaches. Are you aware of any online chat rooms that may provide support to me. I will be losing my insurance shortly so I need some help. Thank you for your time. Debbie.
