How Much Do You Know About Headache Meds?

"Would anyone who has had any experience with Elavil (Amitriptyline) please post to me. My dr. gave it to me and I tried it once a couple years ago, but made me so groggy. Does it really help with chronic pain and sleep? If anyone out there takes it and it helps, let me know please. How long does the groggy side effect usually last. Thanks so much for the help!!"

To a headacher or someone who cares about a headacher, the words above are bound to be familiar — or perhaps confusing. Medications may be prescribed to prevent headaches/migraines, abort a migraine attack, treat the pain of a headache/migraine, relieve the accompanying nausea, or any number of reasons. It's estimated that over $4 billion are spent annually on over-the-counter headache medications alone.

How much do you know about headache/migraine medications? Do you know how they work? Does the terminology confuse you?

Here's your chance to find out by taking our quick, ten-question quiz.
