This year's dedication:
At all times, our site and all our resources are dedicated to helping ALL sufferers of head pain disorders. One of the issues we address most is proper diagnosis, medical care, and emotional support. Whether you have Tension-Type Headaches, Cluster Headaches, Migraine Disease, or another head pain disorder, it is essential to educate ourselves about our condition, know when we need to seek medical care, and have a strong support network.

This year, our "You're NOT Alone" contest is dedicated to the loving memory of Sarah Crawford, a loving woman, wife, mother, and friend, who lost her battle with Migraine Disease. We honor her memory and hope all those who loved Sarah will find some comfort in the work of our poets.

As a mother and wife,
As a friend and citizen,
She gave to others.
Gave her love,
Gave her loyalty.
Then Migraine knocked
At the door and
Wouldn’t go away.
Migraine wasn’t giving;
The beast was taking.
It has taken her away
From this life, but she lives on,
For we will always love her
And remember her giving life.
We’ll also remember that
Life threatening monster
That knocked at her door,
Remember so it doesn’t take others.

Why a poetry contest?

  • Writing is a wonderful outlet for many people with chronic health problems. It gives us the opportunity to express feelings, and often helps us get some of the frustration out of our systems. It can be a very healthy activity.
  • Sharing these wonderful works of art can help express the fear, pain, and frustration of headaches/Migraine in a way that some people will understand better than they would a normal conversation.
  • To support each other while building awareness among "non-headachers."
  • It's National Poetry Month
  • Why not? :-)

Our Judges:
Each year, our friends at MAGNUM, The National Migraine Association, undertake the extraordinarily difficult task of judging the entries in our contest. This task becomes increasingly difficult and time consuming each year. To them, I extend my deep thanks and gratitude. I would also like to extend my thanks and gratitude to Marie C. Kaddell, who lends her talents as a recognized American poet to assist them.
