From more than 400 entries, the judges of the National Headache Foundation's (NHF) have chosen four prize-winning entries and a total of 25 entries for exhibition in the fourth Migraine Masterpieces national art contest and exhibition. The winners were announced today in conjunction with the unveiling of the Chicago exhibition, "My Life With Migraine." If you're in the Chicago area, you can view the exhibition at the John Hancock Center at 875 North Michigan Avenue from July 22 to July 27.

"Migraine Masterpieces" was open to professional and amateur artists diagnosed with Migraine disease. Entries could include painting, drawing, print photography or computer-generated art.

Suzanne Garnier, 59, of Bloomingdale, Illinois placed First. “I wanted to create a connection with my fellow migraine sufferers by expressing what we all feel during an attack and share these experiences with others who don’t know what migraine is like,” said Garnier.  “I hope my piece will help non-migraine sufferers gain a better understanding of the painful effects of this type of headache so they can be more compassionate to those who live with this terrible disease.”

This was Third-Place winner Marion Pruitt's first art contest award. She commented, "You don’t have to be a professional artist to express the pain and suffering that is induced by migraine headaches ... This art contest was a fabulous idea to bring attention of the disease nationwide ... It’s a great relaxer and temporarily puts my migraines on the back burner."
