Guide Rating -

As with other illnesses, we with head pain disorders experience a broad range of accompanying emotions — frustration, anger, "why me?," fear, and even guilt. We start to measure and identify life events by how ill we were at the time, which doctor we were seeing, what medication(s) we were taking at the time. It can trap us. This book offers not only insights, but concrete actions, to help us remember that we "are not our illness," ways to live with the illnesses and still have joyful, fulfilled lives.

From the Introduction:

"... my own experience with progressive multiple sclerosis and its accompanying stress, pain, and fear. Like many others with serious, debilitating illnesses, I have embarked on a daily, moment-to-moment search for the meaning of why something like this could be happening to me. This illness has robbed me of things I have loved — dancing, running, taking steamy hot baths, tying my own shoes — even buttoning my own blouse. But I have also found that there is a profoundly comforting reality beyond these losses that gives my life meaning, purpose . . . and joy."
