Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Migraine preventive medication for adolescents (teens)

Summary: Migraine Headache study in adolescents. The purpose of the study is to see if an investigational medication works to prevent migraine headaches in teens (adolescents) when compared to placebo (sugar pill).

The study will include:
  • Approximately 300 subjects at about 32 locations
  • A 4-6 week period to determine if a subject is qualified for the study
  • Random assignment to investigational medication (one of three dose levels) or placebo (sugar pill)
  • A 12-weel period when a subject will be given study medication and make five office visits

To be considered for the study, subjects must be:

  • 12-17 years old weighing between 77-220 pounds
  • Experiencing migraines for at least a year
  • Willing to record headache and medication information into a diary

Subjects will receive medical care from a doctor/nurse overseeing the study at no cost and may be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses and follow-up care. However, no potential benefits can be promised to those who take part in this study.
