Important Note from Teri Robert, your Guide

Our Ask the Clinician feature has been very successful since we started it well over a year ago. Dr. Krusz and I welcome your questions, and we're always glad when we're able to help. Our Ask the Clinician email is busy, and that's great. However, we'd like to eliminate the frustration some people experience when they submit questions that aren't appropriate for this venue.

If you have a question for us, please review the following guidelines, then click the "Ask Your Question" link at the bottom of the page.

We have this note on our Ask the Clinician pages:

Please note: We cannot handle emergencies or diagnose via the Internet. For those questions, please see your physician.

Unfortunately, it seems that many either don't understand what we mean or decide to send us their questions anyway. We've also had a rash of questions that are totally unrelated to headaches or Migraine disease.

Therefore, please read these guidelines and examples of inappropriate questions before submitting a question:

  • If your situation is urgent, do NOT email us asking for advice. Be SAFE. Get off your computer, and call your doctor or go to the ER. Example:
    • "For the past day and half, I have the worst pain in my life. It feels like someone is poking a knife into the back of my right eye. I haven't been able to eat or drink anything because I'm nauseated. Also when it comes on, my left arm, from my wrist down goes numb. I took some ibuprofen, but it doesn't seem to work. I was just wondering if this was a migraine headache or something else."
  • Remember that nobody, including Dr. Krusz can diagnose you via the Internet. Examples:
    • "Hope you'll help. I have suffered from headaches behind my right eye for over ten years now. I am 27 this week. The symptoms include irritation from smells of all kinds that cause vomiting, diarrhea. They do not interfere with my vision and there is nobody in my family with a similar problem. What is it and what can I do? Is it curable?"
    • "hi um I have these headaches that last for like a minute and I black out and I feel dizzy is that a bad sign cuz it happens often?"
  • Dr. Krusz cannot evaluate your case and tell you if your medication dosages are appropriate. If you're not comfortable with your doctor's advice, we cannot give you a second opinion. Example:
    • "I would like to know what your suggestion or answer would be to taking 1 150 ms of Wellbutrin and 1 300 mg of Effexor together like take the Wellbutrin early in morning and Effexor around 8:00 could that be possible I want a second opinion."
  • If your question is not related to headaches or Migraine disease, please do NOT send it to us. We will not attempt to answer it. Examples (Yes, these are real questions we received.):
    • I am pregnant with quads. Is it possible to deliver in water at a hospital naturally?
    • I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I can fell my baby moving this is my second child is it normal to feel the baby outside my stomach now so other people can feel it? I'm also wondering when am I in the clear for if the baby is born for any reason will it live. My 1st son was born a month early so I don't know if anything will go wrong this time.
    • When taking the cholesterol medicine lovastatin, how often should one have kidney function checked? Also does it have any interactions with other meds such as Wellbutrin or Zoloft?
    • I had a terrible bloody nose last week while traveling in a very humid area. I must have spit up the biggest snot/blood clot of my life, and I was wondering if I could prevent blockage in my arteries by getting an occasional bloody nose and spitting up these blood clots to alleviate this problem? seems logical to me.
    • I was wondering I have been on the Depo Provera for 3 years in June. I have recently just got off the shot going on 2 weeks this Saturday on the 12th. If I had intercourse and he had cum inside can I become pregnant or how long does it take to get the medication out of my system.
  • Lastly, if you're a student, please don't ask me to do your homework for you. It's not going to happen. If you can find our site, you can use a search engine to do your research. Example:
    • Hi, I'm doing a research about the effects of tea on eye strains, the components of tea on why they are used for eye strains. I've looked through many books, but I can't any. I need this for my term paper. thank you.
