This Week's Questions:

I have been suffering from headaches for the past ten years or more. I cannot work outside, when do my head feels like it is in a vice. I am sure to have plenty of water and wear a hat, it doesn’t help. I also get cluster headaches on right side, behind the eye. They come on suddenly. The pain is unbearable at times, and the cluster will go away with ibuprofen. The other type only falling asleep will help. Anything will be helpful, I have tried watching what I eat.
Also my son cannot fly, when he flies he feels like he is going to have an aneurysm. Goes away when he gets off the plane. I have looked up headaches on the internet, but nothing on flying other thank take-off. He has it the whole time.
Thank you,
Ivonne

I have had migraine type headaches for years. I take Imitrex and it works sometimes. These headaches are a daily thing and often wake me up at 4:30 in the morning just like clockwork.
I was told some time ago that I had occipital neuralgia. I tried the block and it worked but not for long. I have been thinking of having the occipital nerve operated on. I know that one of the side effects is numbness in the back of the head. Can you tell me what some of the other side effects might be.
Thanks
Karla

Hello,
I recently had surgery for a malignant mole on my back, that had spread to one of my lymph nodes under my arm. The doctor had to give me radiation shots before surgery, and every since I got out of surgery, I have had really bad headaches. It's been 3 weeks now, and I hurt everyday. What could cause this?
Thanks,
Sandra Sheridan

I started with migraines whilst having my first daughter. The aura was accompanied by pain. I had a few of them but they cleared up after the birth of my daughter and only came back severely whilst having my second daughter. This time they were in cluster and would last on and off for up to two weeks then disappear for a few weeks. I was assured they would disappear after the birth. However 7 months later and they have returned chronically after a 3 month break. I am worried that I have a brain tumor although multiple doctors have tried to allay my fears. I am totally neurotic now and constantly looking for the zig-zag line, this latest episode has happened three times this week with the aura returning three times on the same day. Do you have any advice? My father also suffered with them in is thirties.

Hello,
For the last month I have been feeling weak, and ill in general. I have had all sorts of blood tests, stool samples etc... which have concluded that I do not have a viral or bacterial infection. However I continue to have weakness, tingling in my arms, followed by blurred vision (and sensitivity to light) (also my right eye has been feeling strange, no changes in vision, but just feels different than normal) and a feeling of general weakness (sometimes these symptoms are followed by a mild headache, but most often there is no headache). Additionally I have had loose bowl movements ever since these symptoms began about a month ago. With these symptoms I have described (often having no headache) do you think these symptoms are related to migraines? I am desperate for an answer, who do I need to go to...(already seen family practitioner, internist-gastro, and ear nose and throat specialist all telling me that there is nothing wrong with me.

Please help. I have been suffering from migraines for about 6 years now. When I get them, they last for days (4+) and sometimes a week or two. I've tried Midrin - did nothing for me. Maxalt did nothing too. Tried Imitrex, tongue swelled. I am also on Zoloft 100mg; Toprol 100mg; teveten 600/25mg; and Clarinex. Now the doctor wants me to take Zomig. I picked up the prescription today, but am on day 4 with the migraine. I haven't taken yet since it says to take right away. I live with ice packs on my neck and head every night. I am in constant pain. Mostly start from stress and degenerative arthritis in my neck. What's next? Any suggestions as to where to go next? Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Hi, I am 33 yrs old and have had migraines off and on since I was 20.. the problem now is that I am having migraines that are giving me cramps in the front of my thighs, quadriceps area. The pain is unbelievable in my head and legs. The ER doctor has me taking aspirin as needed and valium every eight hours to help with the leg cramps. Is there anything else that can be done and is this a common occurrence.

I have had hormonal migraines since a teenager. I am now 56 years old. I have tried various medications and participated in numerous clinical trials. Have yet to find a treatment that works for me. 3 years ago at the onset of menopause the migraines decreased in frequency and severity. 8 months ago headaches returned occurring every 2 - 3 weeks and are severe. My ability to cope with these headaches is not as strong as when I was younger. I do not have medical insurance. I live near Austin, Texas. I would be willing to participate in investigational studies.
Thank you for your help.

My father gets headaches at the back of his head on the lower left side. It hurts when he touches the area. Occasionally he has a shooting pain through the ear as well. I’m not sure if the pain is starts in the ears and goes to the head or vice versa. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi there!
I have been taking OxyContin 20 mg. for my migraines. Also a Percocet 5 when the Oxy needs a "boost". I have been told by friends and relatives that opioid medications will destroy my internal organs. Is this TRUE? I have suffered from migraines for nearly 50 years and these meds. do help a lot, but I don't want to risk the loss of an internal organ either. Don't nearly all meds. have some kind of adverse reaction to the internal organs? Please advise me as to what I should do! I can lead a normal life with these meds. or lay in bed all day in agony with a migraine. Thanks,
S.
