QUESTION:

Please help. I have been suffering from migraines for about 6 years now. When I get them, they last for days (4+) and sometimes a week or two. I've tried Midrin - did nothing for me. Maxalt did nothing too. Tried Imitrex, tongue swelled. I am also on Zoloft 100mg; Toprol 100mg; teveten 600/25mg; and Clarinex. Now the doctor wants me to take Zomig. I picked up the prescription today, but am on day 4 with the migraine. I haven't taken yet since it says to take right away. I live with ice packs on my neck and head every night. I am in constant pain. Mostly start from stress and degenerative arthritis in my neck. What's next? Any suggestions as to where to go next? Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
Pat

REPLY:
Dear Pat:
You have quite a number of elements in your headache story. You may be right about the Zomig; triptans work better at the start of a migraine. Talk to your doctor about longer acting triptans such as Frova. I suspect you may need the services of a headache specialist in your area. Good luck
