QUESTION:

What is orgasmic headache? And what can be taken for it??

AND

I have always had periodic migraines, but just recently I have started getting throbbing headaches right before reaching climax during sexual intercourse. They feel like a migraine except only last about 20 minutes. I am 37 years old and in good health, I do not understand this.

Before saying anything else: Go to your doctor to be sure this is what you’re experiencing and to rule out other, possibly more serious, conditions.

Orgasmic headaches are also sometimes called “coital headaches” or “postcoital headaches.” They’re a form of exertional headache. They can strike just prior to, during, or just after orgasm and last for a few minutes or up to 24 hours. They’re more common in men than women at a ratio of 4:1. Although such episodes are usually benign, it is important that they be correctly diagnosed to rule out organic causes.

Once diagnosed, your doctor can recommend some pretty common medications that you can take in advance of sexual activity to help prevent these headaches. See:

We've all heard the old joke, "Not tonight, dear. I have a headache." Right? Surprisingly enough, for some people, there definitely is a correlation between sexual activity and headache or migraine. Is that correlation good or bad?
