| QUESTION: I have tried, truthfully, all the migraine prescription and over the counter meds. Midrin helps some. My migraine history began after a bout of viral meningitis. I have been seeing a Neuro specialist for 5 years, and he is very current with all the migraine findings. I am now trying CoQ10, 100mg, 2x/day. What studies/information/results have you found using this? I think it is beginning to lessen the migraines, (averaging one a week, running anywhere from 1 -5 days). REPLY: Study of Coenzyme Q10 for Migraine prevention began fairly recently. Ive been able to find only one published study. In that study, 61% of participants experienced at least a 50% reduction in Migraine frequency after 9 12 weeks of taking 150 mg of Coenzyme Q10. You can read more about this in this article: Coenzyme Q10 as a Migraine Preventive In a recent trial of coenzyme Q10, 61.3% of the patients treated had a greater than 50% reduction in number of days with Migraine. Less than 1% reported any side effects. Study of Coenzyme Q10 for Migraine prevention and treatment of other neurological diseases continues. There have been recent findings that it may well be helpful for Parkinsons Disease patients, too. Teri Robert (answer reviewed by Dr. Krusz) |
