QUESTION:

Good afternoon.
I have been suffering from headaches for the last ten years. They are always in my forehead and pain on the both edges of my temple. The pain seems to correspond to the muscle that lies right at the edges of the temple and above my eyes and radiates across the whole of my forehead. Nurofen Plus (200mg ibuprofen and 12.8mg codeine phosphate) will alleviate it to some degree but nothing will make it go completely. I am sure stress has something (or everything) to do with it. I am already on Dothiepin (Sinequan) to no avail. Any ideas you may have will be greatly appreciated and they last for weeks on end. Thank you.
Regards,
Corinne

Dear Corinne:

Based on your medication availability, I’d guess you are from Canada. The continual use of ibuprofen and codeine can lead to analgesic-rebound headaches on a daily basis. Sinequan doesn’t seem to be helpful either. If sleep is an issue, talk to your physician about tizanidine, if he is familiar with it, as it helps sleep and headaches. Above all, don’t reach for the over-the-counter medication.

Good Luck.
