| QUESTION:
My husband is 48. He has had IBS or what ever the current name is now
for most of his adult life. At first his IBS responded to Metamucil,
then a job change 10 years ago did miracles. Then about 5 years ago,
The IBS returned and with it came migraines. Anytime he is about to
have diarrhea, has diarrhea, or is getting over diarrhea, he had
horrible migraines. Imitrex (100 mg) may or may not help. He has tried
Effexor, Paxil, Welbutrin, etc., and they all make the diarrhea worse,
which makes the migraines worse. He has seen several neurologists for
the headaches. Maybe we should go back to a GI and start all over? Migraines can be associated with many medical problems, including IBS. Many Migraineurs have accentuated gastrointestinal activity with (or before or after) Migraine episodes. Seeing a headache expert, rather than a general neurologist, may be a step forward to better treatment. Dr. Krusz.
