QUESTION:
Is there a distinction between a "headache" and "heavy-headedness"?  I am a young man who has chronic head problems - it is difficult for me to explain to a doctor how I feel - my symptoms are: slight dizziness, a feeling of heaviness, and tightness in my temples and frontal area.... Would this be classified as a headache, and if so, what types of treatment could be of help?

REPLY:
"Heavy-headed" can be a part of the whole complex of symptoms that people experience as part of their headache. I would think there are a lot of distinctions between the two, since people with many clinical problems or disease states have this complaint. the best way to sort it out is to sit down with someone familiar with headaches. Your feeling of "heavy-headedness" might be part of a tension-type headache, usually very treatable.
