Review: 
This is one of the best mystery/suspense books I have read in a good long time. Clint Eastwood is making a movie of it starring Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, and Tim Robbins. It opens with Jimmy, Sean, and Dave playing together on Saturdays. During a fight, a car pulls up. Dave ends up getting into the car and being abducted. He's returned to the neighborhood 4 days later, though the real Dave never does come back. When the story flashes forward 25 years, the three boys have grown up, and their paths cross again when Jimmy's daughter is murdered. Sean is now a cop investigating the murder, and Dave's path and his past cross into the investigation. There are a lot of twists and turns and connecting story lines in this book. It reads fast and is gripping. It has a dark, brooding atmosphere, and the ending is top-notch. Highly recommended.
