Headache and Migraine Glossary: Aneurysm

Definition: congenital weak point in the wall of an artery that may bulge outwards, rupture and bleed, causing what is called a "subarachnoid hemorrhage." Produces a severe headache and stiff neck and can be fatal.
Examples: An MRI is often ordered for people suffering from headaches in order to rule out an aneurysm.
