Readers of this site know by now that two of my strongest platforms are patient education and patients and doctors working together as a team. Oprah Winfrey's recent show about medical errors was filled with very good reasons for these platforms:
- Jennifer had chemotherapy and ended up having a hysterectomy because of a misdiagnosis following a faulty, but commonly used test.
- Linda endured an unnecessary double mastectomy...
- Hurshall came out of surgery without his penis...
- Judy was denied a C-section, and endured four DAYS of labor after her water broke...
- Paul, a young man in his last year of medical school was left in the OR to complete a procedure he'd never done before...
- Robin endured needless and excruciating pain for six weeks after giving birth...
If you missed the show, or even if you didn't, check out the section of Oprah's site about this show by clicking HERE.
I implore you, take some time to look at that section of Oprah's site. Please don't let yourself or someone you love end up in such a situation.
Take care and take responsibility,
Teri
