  • "Post-Traumatic Headache in Mild Head Injured Litigants" by Jim
Andrikopoulos, Ph.D., ABPP of the Ruan Neuropsychology Clinic in Des Moines, IA. This study examined the relationship between non-improving and/or worsening of post-traumatic headache in mild head injured litigants and neuropsychological and personality functioning.  In mild post traumatic headache patients who have ongoing litigation, they test disproportionately worse on cognitive testing, report more post concussion headache and symptoms, show greater psychopathology on their MMPI (Minnesota Multi-phasic Testing)Personality Inventory), than patients not involved in litigation. This may show malingering but it would be necessary to test a group with post- traumatic and persistent headache who are not involved in litigation for financial gain.

"Headache research has had minimal exposure both to the scientific and lay communities. Through the 1st Annual Headache Research Summit, the National Headache Foundation is working to broaden the education of Primary Care Physicians and Headache Specialists in headache treatment and diagnosis.  We hope to encourage more research with an easier avenue to disseminate it," said Dr. Seymour Diamond, founder and executive chairman of the National Headache Foundation.

The National Headache Foundation (NHF), founded in 1970, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving headache sufferers, their families and the healthcare providers who treat them; promoting research into headache causes and treatments; and educating the public to the fact that headaches are a legitimate biological disease and sufferers should receive understanding and continuity of care.

To learn more about headache causes and treatments visit the NHF Web site at www.headaches.org or call 1-888-NHF-5552 (M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST).
