Now that you've been to your appointment, it's time to evaluate your current situation. Get out the notes you made before your appointment and after your appointment so you can analyze where you stand now.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Were you satisfied with the doctor and his staff?
    • Their knowledge?
    • ... professionalism?
    • ... amount of time spent with you?
    • Are they "team players? who were receptive to your questions and input?
  • Did you get answers to all of your questions?
  • If you hadn't been diagnosed before, do you now have a diagnosis?
  • If you did have a diagnosis before, did the doctor perform an exam to confirm that diagnosis for him/herself?
  • Are you comfortable about any diagnostic tests that were or were not ordered?
  • Did the doctor set up a treatment regimen with you?
  • Did you discuss what to do if you need help when the office is closed?
  • Was a follow-up appointment set?

At this point, you should have a diagnosis for your head pain. Keep in mind that we can experience more than one head pain disorder. For example, it's not at all unusual for someone to have tension headaches and Migraine disease.

In our next lesson, we'll discuss how we can each educate ourselves and become a more valuable member or our healthcare team.
