Purdue Pharma has implemented a comprehensive program to combat drug diversion and help ensure that legitimate patients continue to have appropriate access to the medications they need.  The company is introducing an educational program alerting teenagers and pre-teens about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.  Purdue offers free tamper-resistant prescription pads and educational materials that help physicians and pharmacists reduce diversion of prescription drugs, and conducts medical education programs to educate healthcare professionals about proper pain management.  The company is also working with law enforcement to curb diversion of prescription drugs through theft and fraud.  Finally, Purdue is investing more than $50 million a year on research to develop new forms of pain relievers that would be resistant to abuse. _________________________________________________________
