You should be able to bring up anything of
concern to you with your neurologist. If he's not receptive, then it's time for
you to move on. Only by carefully reviewing your medical history and doing a
very thorough exam is anyone going to be able to tell you if you had Basilar
Migraine. Not to frighten you, but it also needs to be considered that many of
the symptoms you describe are stroke symptoms as well as Migraine symptoms. Have
you had a CT scan or MRI recently? You're right that triptans and ergotamines
are not recommended for Basilar Migraines; nor are they prescribed for patients
with a history of stroke.
Please, if your doctor is not taking this seriously, dismiss him, and get a new
doctor. You may want to investigate our list of recommended doctors. There's a
link to it at the bottom of this page.
Teri Robert
Dear 45-Year-Old:
Dr Robert is quite right. Having said that, basilar migraine in a 45 year old is
uncommon and your symptoms could represent many, many things. if you have a
headache specialist in your area, that would be the way to go. Most general
neurologists aren't headache specialists by any stretch of the imagination,
although the general public might think so. Your long intermittent history is
comforting but I can't diagnose over the Internet, as you can well imagine.
Please persevere and Good Luck,
John Claude Krusz
